For those of us who were fascinated by anything related to space growing up in the 80s and 90s, it held special significance. Space shuttles, the ISS, and missions to Mars kept our attention. But trumping them all were the big daddy missions of the Pioneers and Voyagers. Voyager 1, launched in 1977 (when I was a baby), was expected to last only a few years.

Pic 1: The blue pixel in the band on the right is our planet, Earth. Think of this pic whenever you are overweighed by life around you. Shifting this perspective is needed at times.

Defying all odds, it continued its journey and is now reaching the end of its lifespan. This piece serves as a wonderful eulogy to this machine, which famously provided us with the perspective of our planet in the grand scheme (the pale blue dot).
